Shell Cove

Many people know HaBonim Beach thanks to its beautiful lagoons and impressive coves, but it has one hidden gem that only very few people know about: Shell Cove, located only 10 minutes from the main parking lot of HaBonim Beach Nature Reserve. When you get there, you'll forget the time, because this is not a place for just a "short visit"... It's quiet and romantic, and there are also benches where you can sit and enjoy the view of the beach with its millions of shells. Bring a blanket and/or a meal, sit back, take a deep, relaxing breath and enjoy the hypnotic view of the sea. To get there, park in HaBonim Beach parking lot, turn south (left) and walk for 10 minutes along the beach until you come to the benches. To their left, you'll see the path leading to Shell Cove.

Shipwreck Beach

On the north side of HaBonim Beach, just outside the nature reserve, you can see a ship that washed ashore one stormy night 50 years ago, and which has now become a tourist attraction. The ship called "Netz", or in its previous name, "Elisheva", was a fishing boat that went on its maiden voyage in the 1960s. It was designed by Yitzhak Ariel, who worked for the Israel Shipyards Co. He chose to call it Elisheva, after his sister. One year after its maiden voyage, the ship was sold to a fisherman from Jaffa, who changed its name to Netz. The story goes that, in March 1970, during a routine mission to transport three motorboats from the Port of Ashdod to the Port of Haifa, the ship was caught in a storm and fell behind schedule. A distress call went out, but before it could be rescued, its towing cable was caught in its propeller and its engine broke down. The strong waves that night washed the ship ashore on the northern part of HaBonim Beach, where it remains, attracting many visitors who want to get their picture taken with it.

IMPORTANT: After you cross the train tracks, immediately turn right onto a dirt road. Keep straight until you reach a stream, and then turn left until you reach the northern beach, located outside the nature reserve.

Entrance to the beach is free, camping is permitted, but there are no toilet facilities and no shade. *Please note that the ship has rusted and that climbing on it is considered extremely dangerous.

Dor Beach

The ancient seaport of Dor stood near modern day kibbutz Nahsholim, at a strategic location that became an important meeting place for merchants from the East and West. Recently, a new and improved national park was opened at the site, including accessible walking paths, posted maps around the site area, a kiosk and toilet facilities. The site includes a large, amazing beach, hidden turquoise pools and the "Mushroom Rock", which is the main attraction at the Tel Dor nature reserve. There are two ways to get to the "Mushroom":

  1. Turn left, and walk 10 minutes up an accessible path leading to a hill overlooking the "Mushroom".
  2. A more interesting way would be to walk 15 - 20 minutes up the beach until you reach the "Mushroom" and the impressive lagoons surrounding it.

Ga'ash Beach

Between Netanya and Herzliya, there is a quiet beach, once known only to area residents. But today, when we all have navigation apps on our phones, it is easy to find and enjoy this amazing beach. It is easily accessible by car, and if you don't have one, you can hire a car for a few days and enjoy a trip to this magical place not far from home. To get to the site, park next to the new neighborhood in Ga'ash and go down the trail leading to the beach. The walk takes 5 minutes. When you get to the beach, the only thing left to do is find a nice spot, sit back, and enjoy the peace and quiet around you.

Staying after dark is not permitted. During the bathing season, between July and September, lifeguard services are available at the site.

Gedor Beach

In the central region of Israel, not far from Hadera, you'll find one of the countryโ€™s most beautiful nature reserves. The beautiful Gedor Beach Nature Reserve combines a marine nature reserve, with a total area of approximately 201 acres, and a beach nature reserve with a total area of approximately 185 acres. Whether you'd like to take a hike in the reserve or just sit on the sand and sunbathe, you simply have to explore the pristine sandy beach and the hidden coves, which even I had to work hard to find. To get to all the best places, park your car in the regular parking lot and walk 5 minutes to the beach. From there, turn right to see all the turquoise lagoons next to the Chinese cove. This cove is named after the immigrants who came to Israel from Europe after spending a long time in China, and who often used to visit this beach.

Staying after dark is prohibited, dogs are allowed, the site is not accessible to people with disabilities. Some areas of the beach are closed because sea turtles lay their eggs there. Do not approach or touch these areas.
